  1. Shake hands in the doorway. Wait till you’re inside.

  2. Keep your shoes on. They just might give you slippers (see above).

  3. Arrive without a gift. And if you choose flowers, make sure the count is an odd number.

  4. Argue with the babushki, or grandmother, because she’s always right and commands a position of high respect in the household.

  5. Pay them back after nightfall. Some believe that financial transactions at night is a bad omen. Wait until morning.
